The oil filter traps and removes contaminants from the oil that are byproducts of combustion such as carbon or metal shavings. The oil filter is critical. It keeps your oil free of particles that would grind away at the surfaces of the engine that the oil is meant to lubricate. For construction equipment, this is even more important. Construction equipment is exposed to dirt and debris which would get caught in the oil without a proper oil filter. Over time, oil filters can become clogged. When an oil filter is clogged, it still allows unfiltered oil through the engine because the engine requires oil to run. If you let this happen for too long, there will be an increased amount of friction between the parts that the oil is meant to lubricate causing the engine to overheat. Engine performance and oil pressure will begin to drop and your exhaust will become noticeably dirty. If it gets too bad, oil won't be able to enter the engine at all. It's important to replace your oil filter with every oil change. Clean oil is the lifeblood of your engine. If there is one thing to keep up with it is regular oil and oil filter changes.
