Ignition wires, otherwise known as ignition cables, spark plug wires, or high tension leads, transfer current from the distributor or ignition coil to the spark plugs, creating the spark that causes the combustion within the chamber and starts the engine. Ignition wires wear over time and should be replaced with the spark plugs. A worn ignition cable is not able to transfer the spark from the ignition coil to the spark plugs and will result in the engine misfiring or stalling. Other signs of a bad spark plug wire are rough engine idling, reduced engine power, or engine hesitation due to the disruption in the flow of electricity to the spark plugs. Always check your spark plug wires first for visual damage such as melting or cracking from extreme temperatures or vibration.
